Blue stain from a t-shirt collar stained a new shirt light brown in color, of course it had to be my husbands?

I recently did a load of laundry in cold water and my husband had a light blue t-shirt with a dark blue trim it bled onto his work shirt which is sort of a canvas material. I have tried: oxyclean, shout, bathroom cleaner, hairspray, alcohol……….has anyone done this before ? OH never put it in the dryer.
Thanks seamstress, never thought of that.

There are products that are designed to remove the color from fabric in order to ready it for new dye. This may be your solution to remove the blue dye from the canvas shirt; however, it could also cause the shirt to be a lighter shade as well.

You can get dye remover from a craft store that sells dyes, such as JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels and A.C. Moore. The product names vary –
Dylon, Ritz, Tintex, they all work the same. Follow the directions and be certain to swoosh the garment while it is soaking so the garment color results are even in color.

If that dark blue dye bled in cold water, I don’t think it’s possible to get it out. If anything could have it would have been the OxyClean.

I am the queen of trying to remove stains, but fabric dyes are not a stain exactly, but a dye – they aren’t meant to be removed from fabric… ever.

Obviously bleach would get it out, but also ruin the canvas work shirt. I think I’d try a OxyClean solution and leave it on longer…. MAYBE try some Hydrogen Peroxide for a short period and be careful to only apply it to the stain itself w/ a Q-tip.

Sadly, I don’t think you’ll get it out 100%, but maybe be able to lighten it at best.

    Good luck though!

I love having a stain mystery! I’m almost jealous! =]
