Can snowboard wax stain your base?

I use poorboys blue blur wax on my board. My board has a white base and the wax seems to be leaving a blue permanent stain on the base. I thought it was extra wax at first but after scraping it wont go away. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else before.

Keep in mind that the base of your board is made out of a material called P-tex which is designed to absorb the wax that you are applying to your base. So if you are using a colored wax there is probably a good chance some of the dye will stay on your base no matter how much scraping you do. It should eventually disappear however as you continue to use up the wax.

Regardless always make sure that the base of your board is clean before you wax it.

At the end of the day though I would rather take a board that rides better over one that looks better every time.

I have had my white base start to turn a bit green even after scraping. Maybe your base wasnt clean enough. I found that my base went back to normal after a bit of riding and a rewaxing

First, like the other person said, make sure the base is clean before you apply wax. Ski shops sell a product called "base cleaner". Basically you just scrub the bases down with that using a paper towel, then wax.

However, this is probably what you are seeing. Bases (skis and snowboards) are made of a porous substance called petex. When you hot-wax, you are forcing the wax molecules in to the pores of the petex. I'm guessing the compilation of all those blue wax molecules is appearing to you as a "stain".

That's my guess. Wax doesn't stain, at least not that I know of.
