i’m moving out of a place within the next few weeks and they are going to be remodeling. unfortunately, my dogs have peed in the house quite a few times and i am worried that the urine will stain the subfloor and i will get in trouble. besides pulling up the carpet and looking is there another way to make it seem like the floor has no damage? currently, i am cleaning the area and pouring baking soda to soak up the stains will that help?
the carpet itself isnt’ stained at all, i’m just worried there’s gonna be pee pee underneath. i don’t want that

Go to Petsmart.com and search for stain and odor removers. These products have enzymes that neutralize the odor. Baking soda is not going to do much good. You should also consider renting a steamvac from a local hardware store or contact Stanley Steamer to come in and clean up the carpet.

you might have to re-seal the floor. The previous owners of my house let their cats pee everywhere, and we ripped up the carpet and padding and re-sealed the floor and you could still smell it in the summer when it got really hot. We had to seal the floor twice….

I wouldn’t worry about stains on the subfloor. It’s not likely that a dog can generate enough volume of urine to damage the structure. And any staining will be indistiguishable for other household spills. The trick is carpet stains and smell – and as others have pointed out, there are good commercial products for cleaning the carpet and removing odor.

Use a steam cleaner to clean the carpet really well. Then pour vinegar – straight out of the gallon jug – onto the area that you’re worried about. Vinegar will neutralize the smell. Then a day later, use the steam cleaner again. (you can do this with your laundry too – http://www.gomestic.com/Homemaking/Nine-Ways-to-Use-Vinegar-in-the-Laundry-Room.53647)

They might see a stain on the floor but at least it won’t smell so they won’t know what it is and you won’t get into trouble.

There is no real way to get the stain out unless you yourself rip up the floor and replace it. Better to make sure that there is no smell.

Most of the time when you pull up carpet, you will be able to tell. Usually by the smell. But the smell of cat piss is about 15 times worse than the smell of dog piss. To answer your question, if they pull up the carpet, they will know something peed on it.

You’ll never get the stain or the smell out, Sorry!
