I just recently tore up my carpets and don’t know anything about wood flooring so I don’t know if it’s hard wood floors or not.But under the carpet and padding are dog urine stains almost black in spots . Can this floor be sanded and get the stains out by my self or not an how hard is it to sand and refinish my wood floors my self. Teresa

Thats exactly what Im doing this week. You’ll need to rent a floor sander for about $35 and use both grits of sand paper they provide. Use the fine grit SECOND.

Then you can stain if you’d like and then you’ll need to seal the flooring. I didn’t find it all too difficult just time consuming. Good Luck!

I wouldn’t go to all that trouble just for a stain, just use a mixture of 50/50 Clorox & water in a squirt bottle and after spraying use your broom and kinda brush it around the stain and with a few paper towels wipe up the excess.

Floors are mainly constructed with hard wood otherwise the dog urine would have rotten it. If the stains is on a wide area, I suggest to sand it with a sanding machine but don’t exert too much force on the wood in order not to make it uneven just enough to get most of the stain off then varnish or paint the wood. Good Luck.
