My dog knocked over a oil based scent diffuser and now I have a salad plate sized dark red oily stain on nearly new carpet. I covered it with salt hoping that it would absorb the oil. Has anyone else spilled one of these and how did you remove the oily mess from the carpet?

My carpet has a very stubborn stain that i find impossible to remove! Any suggestions for stain removeable?The stain was caused by a hot pad under a houseplant which caused the hot pad to fade onto the carpet!
