Ceiling/Water Stain below the guest bathroom?

A few months ago, my wife and I noticed a water stain which seemed to be caused by the guest bathroom directly above. We have a Home Warrenty, so we contacted them to have someone come and look at it. They removed a small portion of the ceiling where the stain had occurred and ran the tub faucet (not the shower faucet) for some time and no leaking was detected. Therefore, they just replaced the hole cut out in the ceiling. A few weeks later, a relative was in town to visit and used the shower, we noticed the stain reappeared. If leaking isn’t coming from the tub, I can only assume it’s coming from the pipe to the shower faucet. Any suggestions or ideas on how to determine where the leak is specifically coming from and how to fix it would be fantastic.

    it could be in the drain as it only shows up when used if it was in the actual water pipe which is under constant water pressure it would leak all of the time. It also could be a leak in tub surround or tile when water hits the body it splashes off of walls I suggest someone take a shower and watch from below Im a ex plumber and I know it is frustrating to trace water leaks hopefully these suggestions help good luck

    it could be a few things, but i would pull the tiolet and replace the wax seal, then take it from there, as the wax seal is just a few bucks, , , also you could pull the handles off the shower and pull the round silver plate off and try and tighten the pipe fittings back there good luck to ya

    So why aren’t you going to use your home warranty? The condition is covered so why not use it????? Otherwise you are facing a formidable task.

    Hopefully you have a wall behind the tub/shower where you can cut a hole to look at the shower pipe. Measure up from the floor to the faucet handles and cut the hole at the same height. My guess would be the connection from the faucet unit to the shower pipe. Good luck.

    Are your guests showering with the curtain inside the tub or out? We had a similar problem with a little granddaughter who didn’t know and she soaked it up good. If this isn’t the problem, you may need to consult with a plumber.

    The comode seal needs to be replaced.This is the wax seal under the comode.Lift the comode off the floor and replace the seal.
