so…. these chocolate things i got as a gift melted all in my purse and got all over my brand new fabric wallet, and i need to get it out. but it clearly says "don’t wash" on the wallet…
but i was wondering whats the best way to get chocolate stains out without damaging it?
and also, if i hand wash it, would you think that’s a better way to go?

by the way it’s a white fabric with different colored designs and stuff..

    A white fabric wallet is very impractical and I would personally throw it out.

    If you want to try spot cleaning it, you could make a paste of Oxyclean and hot water and test a small inner section before attempting an all over rescue. At that point you may want to consider throwing it out if it won’t come off since the oxygen powders are recommended by Consumer Reports as the most reliable for stain removal.

    Use cold water on chocolate. Just soak the garment in cold water until the chocolate disappears. Never use hot water on chocolate; it just "sets" it.
    Chocolate stains are among the hardest to remove, yet it’s not cocoa itself that latches onto clothes, according to food chemist Chang Y. Lee of Cornell University, but the colored compounds in chocolate dissolved in fat. The best solution is detergent, because it contains complex molecules called surfactants, which have a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and a hydrophobic (water-hating) tail. One part of chocolate’s compound is attracted to water and repels oil, while the other part repels water and is attracted to oil. When the detergent is mixed with water, the hydrophobic tails attach themselves to the grease and pull it away from the clothing.

    Aw, man! I don’t know what’s worse, that you stained your new wallet… or that you didn’t get to eat the chocolate!

    Here are some tips I found:

    ~Remove as much chocolate as possible with hand without increasing the size of stain. (Scrape off the dried chocolate with a table knife, if necessary.)
    ~Take a spoonful neutral detergent in a cup of warm water
    ~Blot the spot with detergent. Work from the wrong side, never treat the stain into the fabric, and always treat it away from fabric.
    ~Apply clean water with a damp cloth
    ~Prepare a mixture of household ammonia with water in 1:5 or 1:8 ratio
    ~Dab the ammonia water mixture to the spot and once again dab with clear water
    ~Repeat the steps until the stain disappears.

    Some more tips:
    ~Allow the cleaning chemicals time to work on the fabric. Do not be in a hurry to get a clean garment immediately. It may work exactly the opposite way.
    ~Do not rub excessively. The fabric suffer mechanical damage from excessive rubbing.
    ~Test the chemicals on an inconspicuous space on fabric, so that if the chemical is not suitable for the fabric, it will not be readily seen.
