Cleaning a grease stain on leather?

I dripped some melted butter on my red leather couch. I’ve tried to wipe it with a pre-made leather cleaning tissue and I also tried Wilson’s leather cleaner. There is still a dark stain. Is it hopeless? Any other ideas?

The only thing that takes out grease from clothes is hairspray. But, on a red leather couch? Eeeek, I don’t know. I’d patch test it on some kind of scrap leather first, if you can. With clothes, I use a bit of hairspray that I scrub in with a soft brush, let sit for a bit, then wash in warm water and soap. Perhaps, if you are brave enough, hairspray, then a foam water based leather cleaner?

You can also buy leather degreaser. One example and how it (supposedly) works: http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/LeatherDegreaser.htm

You may also wish to ring a dry cleaner that specializes in leather to query their advice.

If you manage to get rid of this stain, it may be a good idea to buy a flurochemical leather protector which will help make problems like this easier to clean in the future–it should inhibit the absorption of subsequent butter spills.
