try a heavy duty degreaser and a stiff brush with a bucket of warm, soapy water (dish soap). spray or pour the degreaser on, then after it sets a few minutes, start scrubbing the daylights out of it with the soapy brush. Rinse it all well. You won't know if you got it until the wood dries. Being that wood is so pourous, you may not be able to get all of the grease out.

Scrub with dish soap and water. Let sit for about 10 minutes. Then rinse well. Repeat if necessary.

Any dish soap works. Most people recommend Dawn, but I've found that any brand works.

Good luck.

You just bought these chairs and they look like that? Return them. The maker of these chairs should not profit from a product that looks like that. This is not your responsibility to fix. It's the manufacturer's responsibility. Return them or exchange them.

Good luck.

sanding off the dark stain is about the only way I have had success with this. You won't get it all out, but the results is somewhat of an "antiqued" look with the light wood in most areas and dark wood in the crevasses and corners. Have a shop vac with an extra fine filter in it to keep down the dust when you are sanding. Have someone vac while you sand. The only way I have had success in going from dark to light is to sand it out.

The "pickling" I have tried is too much like the whitewashing. Pickling and bleaches work best on un-finished wood. I have never seen a bleach lighten up a "wood" stain that was meant to darken woods. Some stains like grape juice and such might bleach.

i think it is quite hard to remove it, anyway, it depends on the finishing of the table it self. if it is really impossible to cover it with something, i think it is better if you brake that part and fix it with wood filler, let it dry, and paint it as the original pattern, and also add another chemical things ( i forget what it is call but there is one).

My daughter got black permanent marker on my coffee table, I can't remember exactly what it was that got it off, but I think it was actually windex that I sprayed on the wood. I know it removed it all with no trace of it. I was told to try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Pen/Clorox Bleach Pen though.

It may have to be refinished - but it's not hard to do (takes some time, but not difficult) and if it's a good wood, it'll be OK.

Before taking such a drastic step - you might try using hand sanitizer (primarily alcohol) on the stain. Don't let it sit too long but rub it in and then use a paper towel to get it off.

IF that doesn't work, you could try some toothpaste, use your finger to rub it into the stain and see if that helps to "buff" it out. Toothpaste has a very fine "sanding" action to it so it shouldn't hurt the varnish/ finish.

Good Luck.
