does anyone know of a laundry detergent or a stain remover that can get old blood stains OUT?

no i did not kill anyone…LOL :} my favorite blanket…it is whiteish and has floral collums…and i have had it for around 18 yrs. it has some very old blood stains on it…i have tried many things with no luck….i was thinking of trying peroxide but i'm not sure what would happen…i know that in the movies and on tv that some sort of heavy duty hospital quality type of peroxide could get blood out…but that is not a possibility…so does anyone have any good ideas of things that they have used that have WORKED????

    Peroxide is really the best choice. Let it soak (on the spot) and use a toothbrush to gently scrub at it. This has worked for me many times. My girlfriend has a Chem Dry franchise and she can get anything out, but swears by peroxide. Good luck!

    Blood is a protein stain, and it takes protein to remove protein! However, if these stains are very old, and have been in the dryer several times, you may be out of luck. Your best bet is to take it to a dry cleaner and let them try. Good luck.

    Try peroxide, if that does not work use Oxy-clean spray, let it set 15 min. than wash it in cold water with tide or gain. if you can stop the washer in the wash cycle and let the blanket set in the cold water for an hour or two.

    Try Oxyclean. Put some in some boiling water til it dissolves. Then soak the spot in it. It shouldn't take too long.

    Use EXIT SOAP, I have friends that often find spots of blood through their house from either pets or kids playing / fighting and find EXIT soap is amazing. They have often removed what they think are older stains with great success.

    I have used it to remove heaps of other stains but am yet to need it to remove blood.

    Try Carbona. You can get it at Walmart or Target in the laundry aisle near the rit dyes. It comes in little yellow bottles for about $3 and they r all numbered different for the different things they do (#5 takes out fats, oils, and grease, another ketchup and mustard). They make one for blood as well.

    Hey!! I had the same problem. It had been stained for some time, after several washes. I got the generic oxyclean from the dollar store (the name brand didn't work for me) I mixed 1 scoop with about a quart of hot water and dabbed it on pretty heavily. When I came back about 10 min. later it was completely gone. It also worked on the mattress. The other thing I use on fabrics that can go in the washer is oven cleaner. It gets everything out and doesn't ruin the fabric.

    Cover the stain in peroxide. Then use a pretreater stick on it, let it sit for awhile (I like to wait at least overnight. If you don't wait long enough, it won't come completely out, and you'll have to do it again), or even a week or longer, and wash it like you normally would the next time you wash clothes. The stain will come out, no matter how old it is, or how many times it's been through the dryer. Works for me every time! Easy, almost no time or work involved, and only takes a minute!
