Does breastmilk stain clothing?

I have been breastfeeding my newborn that is 8 days old. I have been leaking alot! She has just started to spit up the last 2 days. I can’t always just throw the clothes in the wash after they’ve been spit up on. I do use the laundry stain remover, Zout. But if I don’t get to it in time, does breastmilk stain clothing?

In my experience, No, just get it wet afterwords with a little water, and it should be fine!! Even on colored clothing, they might have a little white stuff on them but it comes right out. I have NEVER had a problem with it staining! Good Luck!!

It can, it depends on the clothing and the amount of milk. Also how soon you can wash the clothing. Can you wear breast pads? Lansinoh sells them at Target and such. Also, try to sit the baby up and rub her back gently after she eats. Put a cloth under her mouth to catch any spitup. Try not to lay her down flat right away after she eats.

Breastmilk doesn’t stain, but spit up could just because it is mixed with stomach fluids. Breastfed babies rarely get a stain the first few months of life.

There are certain fabrics that can be stained by breastmilk. The only one I know of is that fake silk. If you have real silk, it washes out nicely.

I don’t know if it does but SHOUT ADVANCED will get out anything, including breastfed, newborn baby poop. It’s true. :)

Breastmilk has stained a few of my things, but not many. It does look funny when it dries, but usually in the wash it comes out nicely. As others have suggested, you might want to invest in some nursing pads. I have really liked the washable cotton ones–they breathe better than the disposable ones, and it is a one-time expense rather than having to buy them again and again.

When I am unable to get the clothes in the washer immediately, I soak them in water and try to get out the stain that way, or store them in an airtight plastic bag (these are very handy to carry in the diaper bag–you can put dirty diapers in them if you have to, or store dirty clothes in them!) When I get home and have time, I try to rinse out the stain in the sink and then use stain remover right before the wash. I have found that the DREFT stain remover will get out the spit-up stains on baby clothes (she rarely spits up on me), and it also works great on baby poop stains (which will be something you will probably deal with later.) Also, the spray-n-wash with resolve power. Both of those work better than stain stick, zout, or shout.
