Finishing pet stained wood floors?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

The stain is urine that has turned the red oak flooring blackish. Do I have to have all of the floor refinished or is there something I can do to pull it out? Any solution would be greatly appreciated.

actually the urine is an amonia based stain that most of the time depending how long its been there stains all the wood all the wat through in the area soiled. if u sand out the floor to remove the stain and refinish it u will notice a differance in the new finish and the original finish!! best bet is to get a hardwood floor finisher to look at the problem. worst case scenerio u have to replace some wood and sand and refinish your flooring.

YUCK! My parents had the same problem and they HAD to put down new floor. You may be able to sand it down and refinish that spot but if it is black it may be too deep. Pulling it up is a ton of work which includes attempting to find wood to match. Another option is a black stain. There are some really nice ones out there and it is very trendy.

Long-term exposure to urine will irreversibly damage wood floors. Urine, when dry, is uric acid crystals that literally burn surfaces over time. So urine left untreated on a hardwood floor for a number of years will literally burn the fibers of the wood.

Pull up boards and replace them.

My son and his family lived with us and I had the same problem. A floor refiinisher friend said to do this and I did and it turned out great. Take a towel and make it wet with ammonia. (Open the window while you are doing this) Wring it out but not too much. Lay it on the floor over the spot. Then on top of that, use another towel with peroxide on it. Change it every day for 3 days. Keep it damp to the touch. When you see the stain disappear to your likeness, I would let it dry before doing anything to it. You can tell if you need to brush some poly on it or whatever finish you have on the floors. Maybe it will take longer then 3 days. Cover the spot with a kitchen chair so no one steps on it and don’t let kids or pets at it. I hope it works for you as good as it did for me. My floors were about 40 years old at the time.

Sorry, man. I hate to be the one to tell you this but, you must replace it. have a pro remove the planks you need replaced, install unfinished wood and finish it all together. Urine disfigures the wood and it will never come out. If I sand your floor and stain it Black Walnut the pee stain will be darker then the rest of the floor.
