Has this ever happened to you? I have a sink in my laundry room that my dad had dropped some metal filings?

in and they had rusted around the drain. The other day, I put some water w/bleach in the sink and I forgot about it. A couple of days later I went in there and the water in the sink was black. Really black. I thought, at first, that the sewer had backed up, but I looked in the commode and everything was fine. Then I remembered I had left the bleach water in there. My question is, would the bleach water have reacted with the rust to cause this and how do you get the stain out. It looks like black ink has stained it. I have used Comet and a stiff brush and gotten some of it out, but it still looks bad.

I’m not sure – but use CLR… removes calcium, lime, and rust.

That is a very bizarre occurrence. One way to get rid of toilet bowl stains is to first empty the toilet bowl of all water. Then use a pumice stone to scrub off the stain. Be careful with the pumice stone though as you don’t want to rub so hard that you hurt the porcelain in the toilet bowl (I learned this from a friend that used to clean vacant apartments professionally.. I’ve done it and it does work). Alternatively, you could first try using paint thinner or Turpentine with the bowl empty. Good luck!

Yes, the bleach reacted with the metal causing the bleach stuff. Try using a very small magnet on a string down the drain and see if you can pull out some of the filings, Or else just put some Drano down there to help flush it out.
Try putting some bleach on a brown pa;per bag and leaving overnight and see if that helps. It works on fiberglass shower stalls.
