How can I dye a shirt to cover a bleach stain?

My husband got bleach on a very important work shirt. It’s for me to have the shirt replaced so I was thinking about trying dye the effected area. And tips?

    find the closest match to the shirt color in fabric dye, then use a Q-tip to apply wash the shirt by itself on the lowest water level on cold and pour a vup of vinegar in the wash, this will make the color hold better, you might have to dye it 2 or 3 times to get the right color, since it was bleached it may not hold the color well at first. The name of the dye to get is called Rit or Rid you can get it in walmart. good luck

    Not sure..is the shirt all 1 color to start with? buy dye and do the hole shirt.

    I wouldn’t try it because once bleach gets into colored clothing it is pretty much ruined, but, if you really want to try it I would go to Wal Mart and get the RIT brand dye, you will have to dye the whole shirt because if you just do certain areas the coloring will look uneven

    you can’t…. you can try to buy a dye to match it… or even have it professionally dyed to match (like they do with dyeable shoes for bridesmaid dresses and whatnot), but there is no guarantee that it will come out identically matching.

    Dye the whole shirt. It will be very difficult to match exactly to the surround color by just dying the bleached area. Pick a color slightly darker than the overall color of the shirt for the best blending. It is a lot of work to do this, so weigh the cost of the materials and your time against the cost of just replacing the shirt.

    you need to match the color as close as you can, get a metal or plastic dish pan, mix the dye and just add the bleached spot (if possible) and leave it until you match the color.

    Try dying the entire shirt a darker color than it currently is, hopefully that will cover the bleach stain!

    Get some pens that approximate the color — permanent ink is best. "Dot" the color on (think of poking the material with the tip of the pen, not brushing or writing) and smear it in right after you put in on (before it dries). If it comes off in the wash, next time put it in the dryer after coloring it or use a hair drier on the highest setting to use the heat to set the new ink in.

    Be warned, though, that the color is almost certainly not going to be an exact match.

    Another option: bleach the whole shirt. I know it’s sounds kooky, but if it doesn’t matter what color the shirt is, just turn the whole thing the same color as the spot. I’ve done that several times and it works like a charm (although you may be surprised what color it winds up being)!

    No matter how many times you dye fabric that has a bleach spot on it, the spot will always be significantly lighter than the rest of the shirt.

    The best thing to do would be to cut off enough material from the bottom of the shirt, if he tucks it in, that is, and if you can spare enough material. Then "patch" the spot the best way you can.
