My son has continually wet his bed and it has damaged his mattress to where it wreaks of urine.

    Umm..
    Get a new one?

But this time, put a plastic liner under the sheets to protect the mattress.
    Just until he stops.
    Then take it off.

pour rubbing alcohol in the same spots. It will dry and remove the smell. Just tried this successfully (based on another’s suggestion) to remove the urine smell from a couch.

Agree that once it’s dried, you should cover it with a plastic cover before putting sheets back on.

    Firstly:

    BUY A NEW ONE.

Secondly there are plastic mattress covers you can buy to protect the mattress.

  4. Muffett : says:

throw it out and get a new one
use a rubber lined mattress pad or plastic tablecloth under the sheets

NO NO NO NO NO do you know how much bacteria is in the mattress now. You should be yelled at. I dont care how bad the economy is I would rather my child sleep on a pile of blanket made into a homemade bed until I could afford to get him a new mattress. GET RID OF IT! Get him a new one and this time buy a vinyl cover for it. My goodness! If it makes you gag to be around it how sick you think hes gonna get. Not only them do you need a new mattress but you have dr. bills as well. wouldn’t that be fun! Sleeping bags are fun for a couple weeks too. Sleeping on the floor for a minute is WAY better than sleeping on an ammonia soaked ookie mess!!!!!!!!!!!

I would really try to replace the mattress if possible.. If it’s simply NOT in the budget to get him a NEW one see if you can get a "new to you" one… From charity, Freecycle.org or friend or family member.

If you have no other resort.. I would try an upholstry foam, wet/dry shopvac to clean the mattress… Then get a plastic mattress cover to seal up the mattress and cover with a cotton washable cover for accidents…

How old is your son? Maybe he’s not ready to go "diaper-less" at night…. ?
