How can I remove a grease stain (like Vasaline) from my clothing?

Hi,

I have jacket that is 80% cotton, 20% polyester. The color of the material is a dark green. The other day I was leaning against our door and some grease from the hinges got onto the sleeve of my jacket. The grease is like the consistency of Vasaline or so.

I soaked the jacket but the stain still remains. Any tips on how to remove it? The stain is about 1cm x 1cm.

Clear dish soap works wonders – It is made to lift grease! Just make sure it is a clear kind so you don’t stain or discolor the fabric from the coloring in the soap.

A gentle dish cleaner/detergent, like Dawn.

De-greaser. Try Dawn Dish-washing liquid as a pre-treater. DON’T PUT IT IN DRYER UNTIL STAIN IS OUT OR IT WILL BAKE IN FOR LIFE!! There’s a product called OXY-GEN made by Bissell. It is a stain pre-treater for carpet, but can also be used on clothes. it works GREAT! you can get it at any Walmart or store of that kind. It’s around $5. I used it to get motor oil out of a shirt & it worked fabulously! Also "Tuff Stuff" in a yellow can (any auto parts store or walmart has it $5 or less) I used this to get ALL kinds of stuff outta the carpet & upholstery of a car. One of these is sure to work. Good Luck!

I’d try the dawn with cold water. If that doesn’t work, try oxyclean. Don’t let the garment dry all the way before doing something else. Once an item is dry, the stain sets more.
