How can I remove a paint stain off my brand new sofa?

I’ve dropped acrylic paint on my new sofa… I did what i could to sponge it away but it pretty much dried instantly so it didn’t work that well. I’ve tried soap and water on it and also nail varnish remover, has anyone got any other ideas?

    Try scrapping the paint off the surface. Be careful to only work the top surface, this will be time consuming. Once your able to scrap as much as you can off, dab with a little Mineral Spirits. Depending on the area, you may be able to apply it with a Q-tip. you don’t want to spread the mineral spirits outside of the stain area, this can damage the material of the couch, so you will want to test an area before going to far. You want to use products that are OIL FREE to clean the acrylic paint, the nail remover you used could have been an oil base, check that, if so, you may be able to try other nail polish remover to tackle that stain. Once you rid the stain, wash it out with a bit of dish soap and then rinse with clear water.

    This is my recommendation for a cloth type sofa.

    I’ve used Wipe-away and Goof off to removed paint. Wipe away is gentler. The fresher the paint the better. Uh-Oh pain splatter is pretty good, too and tough stain remover i’ve heard works. All these should be found at the grocery store.

    Also try a stain remover like shout. I read on a website that using sunlight dish washing detergent works for fairly fresh stains.

    If you can’t get it out, you could try to paint over it with fabric paint if it is a fairly small area.

    When you are using chemicals, such as soap, hair spray or nail polish remover, to remove spray paint from finished leather, be careful to target the spray paint only.

    If its Latex Paint:
    Carefully scrape to remove any excess paint. Mix a solution of mild soap in lukewarm water. Swish to create a great volume of suds. Wipe the paint residue with a sponge dipped in only the foam. Wipe with a clean dry cloth. On finished leather only, follow with a good cleaner & conditioner or saddle soap to condition the leather.

    If its Oil-Base Paint:
    Gently scrape to remove the excess. Mix a solution of mild soap in lukewarm water. Swish to create a great volume of suds. Apply only the foam with a sponge. Wipe with a clean dry cloth. If any stain remains, try rubbing a leather cleaner into the spot with a clean soft cloth. Allow it to dry. If stain persists, test a dry-cleaning solvent on an inconspicuous place. If safe to use, gingerly apply to the stained area, and allow it to dry. Follow with a Leather cleaner & conditioner or saddle soap.
