A few months ago I spilled a quarter of a bottle of pink nail polish into my bath tub, and didn’t notice till about half an hour later. It dribbled down the side and pooled at the bottom.Nothing I’ve tried since then has made any difference at all. I wouldn’t care, but it’s a rented house and we’re moving out next week and I’m afraid I may have to replace the bath!
What I’ve tried: Nail polish remover; rubbing alcohol; clorox; normal household cleaners with bleach in them; bicarbonate of soda; cooking salt. With all of these I’ve tried rubbing, scrubbing and leaving on overnight. Not a speck of difference.
Any suggestions? I’m wondering about caustic soda, but don’t want to ruin the surface.
Unfortunately I live in Thailand and Spotless isn’t available to me. Hot enugh water in the quantity required to fill a bath is also not available. Hairspray, though? Seriously? I can buy some tomorrow, but how could that work?
Shan, sadly I had already tried nail polish remover again last night, leaving it on a soaked pad for a couple of hours, and though it did fade the pink a bit, it also bit a hole in the surface … so I’ve only made it worse … The colour is IN the surface, not removable by knife. What do I do now??! I’m thinking if the pink polish was so indelible, presumably a white polish would be too – in desperation I’m planning to paint a thin layer on and let it dry very thoroughly before adding another.
How could I have been so careless?!
Thanks, everyone. No, the bath was new when we moved in five years ago and has never been used (we shower all the time), so the surface shouldn’t have been at all porous. All the same, the pink polish soaked right in as part of the surface, so there’s nothing to be scraped off. We move out of the house tomorrow so I’m afraid I’ve just got to ‘fess up and hope for the best. I’ve learned a lot but I’ll probably never need to use it again …
