I washed it only a couple of hours after butter splattered on my shirt, but it still has a noticeable "wet looking" stain.

Spray with WD-40, let set a couple of minutes, the apply liquid dish soap, rub the soap in and launder as usual.

Try rubbing in dish soap(on both sides of stain) . This works cause it’s made to cut grease.

I doubt that it will come out. (sorry!) I got butter all over two of my shirts. it didnt come out. But i do have advice about knitted shirts washing (in case it does come out).
Dont put it in the washing machine!
Use detergent and pour it on the stain. Use hot/warm water and scrub for a good fiver minutes around the area. Hang it to dry. (No DRY CLEANER!!!!!)

My mom knits and i recently washed and dry cleaned a knitted shirt she made- not good!

wash it out in the sink and use spray n wash, it is made to get grease out of of clothing,
if it does not come out take it to the dry cleaners.

Cover the oil spot very generously with any type of talcum powder, baby powder, etc. Use your finger and rub it in very well into the area. Let it sit for a day, then launder. It should be gone. Good luck to you!
