People that say use cleaning products are nuts!! If you tried already to remove it and its still there, be easier to get a new bowl or buy a actual small tank. The reason you get the stains is because you more then likely have no water movement and so when your water evapoates is when it leaves the hard mineral deposits on your bowl. I would also buy the gllon water at grocery store that has been filtered. This is cheap and you talking a gallon or 2…..this will help as well. Good Luck!!

We always emptied the tank and used Dawn dishwashing detergent…then Windex. LOL It always turned our sparkling clean and our fish remained the same.

Fish bowls are made of glass. Anything rinses off of glass, including soap, so you can use anything you want to clean it as long as you rinse it out. The idea of not using soap or other cleaners has to do with cleaning a tank with fish in it. On one really nasty tank I got used I cleaned it up with CLR and once I rinsed it all off well it posed no problems.

Of course, another option is to throw away your bowl and get your fish a proper aquarium.

My suggestion is to get rid of the bowl, and get a nice aquarium. No fish can live a decent life in a bowl. I'm going to assume you have a betta in it, so here's a good link for betta care:

Bettas can live up to 10 years in the proper environment and with good care. In a bowl they are lucky to make it past 1 year.
BTW, the best way to get stains out of glass is table salt and a scrubber.

Dont use a bowl for fish please. Get a 20 gallon and do it right. Your fish will be happier.

I always use lemon or lime… Just cut it in half, and rub it on the hard water stains… they come right out super easy, and it's all natural… I don't just use the juice, I find the rind help scrub it off, maybe due to the oils in it? Give it a try, and cheap safe option… Just be sure to rinse really well!

I realize this may sound odd BUT here ya go: Remove fish, empty water from bowl, then take a Mr Clean Magic Eraser & a lil water & a drop of dawn/lemon/baking soda…use of all or variation of some with a lil elbow grease(rubb & scrub) should take off that buid-up! RINSE well…when dried, you will see where you maybe need to re-apply & WHAMO~ nice & clean! Works on shower doors too!

I agree that you should not be using a bowl as a home for any aquatic animal. TO remove hard water deposits soak your bowl in true distilled water. Remove any animals while soaking. The mineral free water will absorb the calcium carbonate( hard water stain). Works fairly fast should take about 15 minutes. Do not use distilled water for fish, only for cleaning the glass. Distilled water can kill fish by causing osmosis in the fish's cells.
