How do i get what i think is rust stains and pet stains out of my carpet?

I shampoo my own carpet and it seems like it has made it worse by bringing up rust stains through the carpet. also i cant seem to get the pet pee stains out of the carpet either. i cant afford a professional cleaner and i have an apartment and cant replace it.

    you have a big problem as pet stains sometimes fade the carpet color itself and then it is permanant and not a stain at all. Rust would do the same thing, change the color of the carpet fibers.
    In order for there to be rust, there would have to be some sort of metal under the carpet or sitting on a wet carpet for a long period of time. The rust stains maybe from nail heads in the floor below the carpet. No way to know unless you pull up the carpet and take a look.
