I am currently removing a humongous india ink stain on my carpet, and the best thing that worked is . . . ammonia. Pure stinky ammonia.

Work on one part of the spill at a time. Pour a little puddle in one area of the spill. Immediately scrub hard in one direction with a cloth towel. Usually the ammonia will foam up when you do this. Use a clean part of the towel to blot up the foam Scrub again. Then repeat these steps if necessary and then move to the next area. Remember to use a clean or unused part of the towel every time you dab or scrub.

When you are all done, pour hot water onto the area and scrub, blot, and dry. This method takes a lot of work, but it is the only thing that I found works.

    Three more things to remember.
    1. Test a small area of the carpet to make certain that the ammonia will not damage anything.
    2. Keep the area ventilated, and run a fan to blow the air outside if possible.
    3. When scrubbing a large stain work from the bottom toward the top. Otherwise you may spread the stain out.
