How do I remove a fresh blood stain from a white cotton-top mattress?

I just bought my mattress yesterday, slept on it without a protector or sheet, and my blood from my period made a roughly 2"x3" stain. It's only 1 to 3 hours old and I've lightened it so far trying to clean it.

The best way is to clean the blood stain as soon as possible before it dries with an absorbant sponge soaked in ice cold water but make sure you remove as much water as possible from your mattress so it doesn't go mouldy or better still, air it out in the sun.

Spray area with cold water immediately to help in the release of the stain. Use a terry cloth to blot off as much as possible then use a terry cloth to dab on hydrogen peroxide to the area. Usually this is all that is needed to pull the stain off. Make sure you allow the mattress good air ventilation when drying. Do not over saturate the mattress with the liquid as it can cause the wood inside to rot.

Use peroxide on a paper towel or an absorbent cloth Gently rub the area inwards. Continually using fresh peroxide and a clean cloth to absorb the stain. Until the stain is gone.
