There is a 45-year old mahogany stereo cabinet at my Mom’s house with a huge water stain, (about 4" in diameter) how can I remove it without ruining the laminated surface?

If this is a black stain, you can’t remove it without stripping, bleaching and refinishing.

If it is a white stain (blush), there are many ways. This is water that’s trapped in the finish. The easiest is to _lightly dampen_ a clean cloth with denatured alcohol and gently pad the area — land like an airplane, lightly wipe across the area and lift off.

I also use "stain removal cloths" that are a treated felt pad. These are a bit oily and have a light abrasive in them and you simply rub until the white goes away. It makes a slightly glossy surface, so you may need to do the whole top, but that’s not a problem as it will also make it look better.

Pure grain alcohol, 100 proof. Try it on an un-seeable section first. Put a little on that clean cloth, dab around the area and wipe into the stain. The alcohol dilutes the stain and caused it to bleed into the damaged area.
