How do I remove an ink stain from a carpet?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

I had an area rug on my living room floor for about a year, and when I went to clean under it the other day, I noticed that the rug, which is yellow, had left a huge yellow stain on the carpet below. It must be that the ink used to dye the area rug, had rubbed off onto the carpet. I tried vacuuming and that didn’t work. I then tried steam cleaning the carpet with regular carpet cleaner, and that didn’t work either. Does anyone know of any product or method that will remove this stain? It is huge – the entire area of the rug.

It does sound like a water-based dye so that is good. You will see from the above that different people use different methods. I remember something about soda crystals being useful. If all else fails you may have to resort to using a dye to stain the whole rug darker that the stain it has now.

Hope this helps a little :)

    Good luck.

use Resolve or Oxiclean. apply on spot and let it sit for a couple of minutes then scrub and vacuum.

Go to the detergent department of your grocery. Look for a product called color catcher. You may find one with another name but this is what it does. If you mix a load of clothes lets say a red sock with your clothes and it bleeds on something else you put this stuff in the washer with it. It carries out the colors that have bleed like your rug to your carpet. You could use that in your steam cleaner or try mixing a bucket with some in it. Try mopping it but I think you are going to have to get a lot of this mix down into the rug. It should do it. Don’t try to bleach it, you could do some serious damage. Try some in a corner of the closet before putting to much down, just to make sure it doesn’t change the color of your carpet. This is the best chances that I can think of. Hope this works. If you have a wet vac you may try pulling the mixture of water and color catcher up with your wet vac. Good luck
