How do I remove set in pet stains?

My cat has decided to use my dining room as a toilet. I clean the stains with Resolve pet stain remover but the smell is still there. I have to get rid of it! I’ve read that using a steam cleaner is NOT a good idea. Help please!!!

    Get a product called "OUT!" It works great, removes the stains and the odor. It is an enymatic cleaner that is safe for fabrics. It also is good for removing feces, blood, and vomit stains and odors. It is found in the pet aisle of just about any department, hardware or pet store.

    A steam cleaner is a WAYYY bad idea. All that will do is add more moisture to an already "wet" problem … and cause it to spread.

    Resolve is worthless. It (and other cleaners like it) may or may not get rid of the surface stain, but will never completely remove what’s under it. THAT’S where the problem (the bacteria and the odor!) is.

    You need Nature’s Miracle or another brand with enzymes. Animal pee "crystallizes" when it dries, leaving behind a semi-solid oily, crunchy residue (yeah, I know … ewwww). This is what has soaked through to the underside of your carpet, into the padding, and maybe into the floorboards as well.

    With the Nature’s Miracle, you have to completely SATURATE the stain, using enough to penetrate the padding below, too … cover the area with plastic, and allow it to dry on its own, which takes several days. The enzymes "eat" the organic matter in the stain. Unfortunately, the enzymes may also "eat" the color in the carpet … and it may take 2 or more applications to fully remove the odor.

    Once an animal has peed on a carpet, it will return again and again to that spot. If it’s only a few small areas, go for the Nature’s Miracle … you can buy it in pet stores, but it isn’t cheap. If the whole carpet is affected, you need to tear it out, clean and seal the floorboards (there is very likely mold under there, as well, and possible damage to the wood) … and replace your flooring with something impervious to moisture.

    well i have a dog and i have had plenty of those horrible set in stains so if you want to just get them out with chemicals get oxi clean but by your self you can use baking soda and put a little bit of water then vacuum it up after 15 minutes

    i don’t know how much your carpet is worth, but I would call a pro for this one… I don’t want anything on my carpeting that my grandkids could not sit on safely, Then you might get some tips on dealing with it if it happens again.
