go to the store and buy pure acetone. some nail polish removers are acetone free and will just smug. soak the carpet with the ace and leave for about 15 minutes. does wipe or anything. after 15 minutes dab to get some of the ace tone up. then vacuum up the rest. if it doesnt completely come out follow up with carpet cleaner, bleach if your carpet is white. be careful if you use the bleach though, make sure you know how to work with bleach to not turn your carpet green!

Nail polish remover should do the job.

You can’t get nail polish off of carpet. Any solvent strong enough to dissolve it without leaving marks would be far too destructive to the fiber. Nearly all carpet sold in America these days is Nylon, and the most popular finish is "Saxony Plush" which means it’s soft to touch, very fine strands, and when you sweep your hand across it, it leaves a path mark. I’d suggest you take a small sharp scissors, and clip away the very minimum amount of carpet pile to remove all of the offending color. Then use a larger scissors to clip some loose fibers from the inside of a closet, along the edge by the door, so it’s not very noticeable. Ideally, the closet carpet doesn’t abut the carpet in a room — linen closet in a tiled hallway, etc. Put a little Elmer’s glue into the "divots" and stand cut fiber in, from the closet clipping. Let it dry overnight. Next day, vacuum it to raise the nap, then using the scissors, trim the patch to same height as surrounding carpet. If it looks OK, you’re done. If not OK, call a carpet repairman (BBB will tell you satisfaction record), and have him use the closet carpet to make a patch. He’ll then find a scrap of non matching carpet for the closet.

Use nail polish remover, get someone to do it whose nails aren’t polished. Put it on a towel and lift up not rub it in.
