Treat wine stains while they are still wet. Blot up as much as possible with an old towel, some paper towels, or even a disposable diaper. Pour some club soda on the stain, then blot it up immediately. If the stain is still there, cover it with a thick layer of salt and let it stand overnight. Vacuum up the salt in the morning.

    If old:

    Instructions

    Things You’ll Need:
    1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1 tbs. dish or laundry soap

    In Carpet

    Step1
Saturate the spot with water to fade an old red wine stain in your carpet.

    Step2
Prepare a mixture of 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tbs. dish soap. Using a cloth, liberally blot this mixture onto the spot. Be sure there’s enough applied to saturate the entire area. Allow it to set for up to 2 hours.

    Step3
Blot the area with a wet cloth after the hydrogen peroxide mixture has set in the carpet. Follow it up with a dry cloth.

    Step4
Allow the spot to dry. If the red wine stain is still there, repeat Steps 1 through 3.

    In Clothing and Linens

    Step1
Saturate the spot with water to fade an old red wine stain in clothing or linens.

    Step2
Prepare a mixture of 5 parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 part laundry soap. Apply it to the spot. Unless the clothing or linen is white, only allow it to set for a moment or two so as to prevent the peroxide from bleaching the fabric.

    Step3
Throw the item into the washer immediately after treating the old red wine stain with the hydrogen peroxide mixture.

    Step4
Check to see if the spot is still there after you’ve washed the stained clothing or linen. If so, repeat Steps 2 through 4. Ideally, you do not want to put the item into the dryer until the stain is as faded as possible, since heat sets the stain in.

Hydrogen Peroxide works on any organic stain. Put an old towel under the stain. Soak the stain with the peroxide and leave until it stops bubbling. Rinse the stain. Repeat if the stain is still there.
