How do you get urine out of a down comforter?

I found a dried urine stain from my dog peeing on my down comforter. I put it in the washer but it smelled even worse when I pulled it back out. (the instructions say machine wash, or dry clean) It’s running a second round but I’m starting to think that it’s just ruined.
Is there anything I can do get this out?

At this point, I’d add either OdoMute or another enzymatic preparation (available at many veterinarians and farm stores) and give it a good overnight soak in warm (not hot) water with OdoMute. Following the soak, do a short wash with a medium speed spin, then rewash with 2 c of white vinegar added to the wash, and an extra rinse.

Be *really* careful picking up a wet down comforter — the inner baffles can tear, and then all the feathers disappear from where you need them. Always pick up the entire wet comforter by "scooping" it. Dry it in a medium heat dryer with a couple of clean tennis shoes or a couple of tennis balls to break up the clumps of down.

No, it’s not ruined. But it will take some extra cleaning.

Nature’s Miracle is an enzyme based deodorizer. it doesn’t mask the smell it actually breaks it down. you can find this product at any pet store comes in a white bottle with red lettering. I have used it for years.

Wash it with Boraxo laundry detergent, and then hang it outside to dry. It will smell clean and fresh and it will also be disinfected because of the borax.

Wash it with brand name soap and water. like tide.
Then put it in the dryer with 1 or 2 tennis shoes.
The tennis shoes will fluff it up when drying.
You could also use one of those fabric softeners sheets in the dryer too. Then it should smell good.
They also have liquid softener you can put in with the soap.
    Use both.

~~You need to wash again. This time add white vinegar to the bleach dispenser to the fill line. This neutralizes urine smells. Use hot water, only need a gentle cycle. Place 2 or 3 clean tennis balls in the dryer with it to keep the feathers plumped up (they won’t clump this way).~~

use charlie’s soap with a scoop of baking soda to neutralize the urine. use vinegar as a fabric softener, as this will also neutralize the urine. then dry outside on the clothesline. it should smell as good as a spring breeze.

Nature’s miracle is definitely the way to go. I buy it at the pet store. Good luck!
