    "Mud / Red Clay Stains
Apply paste of white vinegar and table salt. Rub. Leave for 30 minutes, then rinse. Launder in an enzymatic detergent. If stain still remains, wash again in oxygen bleach."

I have the same problem here – and the high school shirts are WHITE – can you believe it? I generally soak them in Napisan a couple of times before I wash them. I use warm water to dissolve the napisan, then soak in coolish water so as not to set the stain. Good luck. You may have to scrub a little as well.

Let the mud dry completely. Brush off as much as possible. Put a quarter cup of detergent in a bowl of water big enough to hold the muddy part of the clothes. Let soak for one to two hours, then wash as usual.

    OR:

Brush off the excess, then soak for about 15 minutes in one quart of warm water, one teaspoon detergent, and one tablespoon white vinegar. Rinse with cool water. If the stain is still there, dab with alcohol, rinse, and wash as usual. If you still have a rust-colored stain, try bleaching with an oxygen bleach.

  5. MUD says:

Shake or scrape off residue. Presoak in a solution of warm water and laundry detergent for one half hour. Follow up with white vinegar if necessary.
