How do you remove urine smell/stain from a recliner?

I feel stupid asking this but I had a party this weekend and one of the people attending woke up in the middle of the night and urinated on my recliner in his sleep. The next morning I went to the store and purchased upholstry cleaner and saturated the entire recliner with it. There is no smell now but I’m afraid that the chair is disgusting and I’m grossed out to sit on it. I would just say the hell with it and throw it out but it is my friend’s (also my landlord) and getting rid of it is definetly not an option. Would you say its clean enough and I shouldn’t be disgusted or is there something else I should be doing?? Thanks in advance for any advice :)

    Spray the whole thing with Lysol just for the piece of mind.

    Then sponge in some lemon ammonia diluted 1 part to 8 parts hot water. Let it saturate all the gross stuff. I really mean saturate. Yes, it will smell like ammonia when it’s wet, but when it dries the ammonia will break the bonds of the left over urine and neutralize it. In a couple of days it will both disinfect the chair and take care of anything left over.

    And the next time that friend comes over, hand him a diaper and make him wear it before he has his first drink….never to come off til morning.

    The simplest solution is sometimes best: visit a pet store and ask for urine neutralizer. It should neutralize any remaining urine and eliminate the smell.

    Go and buy a "pet solution" that contains "enzymes" in it. The enzymes will eat-up the urine and get rid of smell/stain. In addition to using it for my pet, I have used it during times when my kids were potty training. It also works great on vomit…… just thought I’d throw that one in too, for your "next" party!

    I would go on down to Wal -Mart and get me a large can or Lyesolor ever how you spell it and soak that sucker down and let it air dry.If you don’t have great ventilation and you have kids I would get the kids out for a few hours and I think it ‘ll be just fine just throw a sheet or something over it for awhile.I have a grnge one to but grunged up by grandkids .Shoot don’t be embarressed that kind shit has happened to everbody at one time in their life.Good Luck!!!!!!!

    If it doesn’t smell,then it should be clean enough!!

    bit if you are really that worried about it then hire a steam cleaner from a hire shop and give it a quick steam clean…wont cost much and will def remove any remaining traces!!

    White vinegar works pretty well. Just put some in a spray bottle and put it on the "infected" spot.

    Besides the pet store, you can also try a janitor supply company. Most also sell to the public. You can get urine stain removers with enzymes that break it down and remove the smell.

    I would also consider the wisdom of having that particular individual back to your place.

    hello, well i can understand you problem, but let me tell you a little about urine, urine comming out of a person is by fact sterile and unafending except for the fact that some one leaked, it only becomes offensive after it stagnates and rots from air, and time. thus the old addage you are what you eat. anyway i feel that you are uncomfortable with what happened, so then it is your rental, your paying him and your peace of mind there for prevails, dump the chair, and tell the jerk its no acceptaable in you living space that your paing him for. end of story…..best wishes

    Mean Green works really well at removing urine stains along with other pesky stains.

    1. Put on Rubber Gloves
    2. Spray your Mean Green on the Stain
    3. Wait a minute then begin scrubbing

    It may take some elbow grease to help remove the stain and you may have to spray and clean more than once. But it does work very well. Also Mean Green is Found at any Dollar Store.

    Vinegar and lemon can do a great job of eliminating odors and sanitizing a problem area. It’s cheap and does better than most expensive cleaners will ever do. Oh, and for future reference: Don’t invite that person to party’s anymore. Nasty, nasty.

    I wouldn’t worry about it now, since you say there is no odor. I think you’ve already cleaned it enough. Considering a list of possible bodily fluids to end up on a piece of furniture, urine is fairly sterile (I could think of worse.) I also think the party-pee-er must be teased mercilessly – maybe a new nickname is in order?
