How do you repair hardwood floors that have spots of paint and stain.?

I am trying to clean up my hardwod floors that have wood stain, glue and paint on them. Some of the the boards in the middle of the room need to be removed and replaced. Some have deep cuts and some are fastened with nails to stop creeking.

    One way to remove paint from woodwork, is to use denatured alcohol. Thsi won't hurt your woods finish. Now if your not opposed to refinishing them Varathane makes a great kit that refinished your floors, I used it on my livingroom, and it looks fantastic!

    Big job but sand the floor ( you can rent the sander from the home improvement store) replace old boards and restain the floor or just paint it

    It sounds like you have a major undertaking. Since most hardwood floors are tongue and groove it will be difficult to remove boards from the middle without starting on the side.
    I am going to assume from your description on some of the problems that this is a rather old house. Do they have flooring that will match? If the wood was dry and didn't have a protective sealant on it when the spots of stain, paint and glue got on it, these discolorations have soaked into the wood and will have to be sanded out. The floor may not be in any shape for sanding. An alternative you might want to consider would be wood laminate flooring. You can have it laid over the existing floor and the only way you can tell it from natural wood floor is that it doesn't have any imperfections.
