How to eliminate a rust stain on clothing?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

My washer broke and made rust stains on my white pants. I have tried everything, even Oxiclean and nothing is getting the rust out. How can I remove the rust stain ?
All of these answer look good but we haven't had any sun. So can't try anything yet. All seem logical and definetely will try. I can't decide which is the best answer. all are good.

The best way to get rust stains out of your clothing is to use a lemon, or table salt and cream of tarter.

    Lemon

•To use a lemon, lay your garment on a flat surface on top of a towel.

•Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice onto the rust stain. (If you do not have a lemon, you can use bottled lemon juice, it works just as well.)

•Lay your garment in the sun and allow it to dry.

•Once your garment has dried, look to see if the rust stain has lifted. If it has not, repeat the process.
•If the rust stain is removed, launder your garment.

    Salt and Cream of Tarter

•To use salt and cream of tarter, simply make a mixture using equal parts of both.

•Lay your garment on a flat surface on top of a towel.

•Spread your cream of tarter and salt mixture onto the rust stain.

•Place your garment in the sun and allow it to dry.

•If the rust stain has lifted, launder the shirt.

•If the rust stain has not lifted, repeat the process. =)

Check the laundry section at the store.I believe there is a laundry aid for that specific purpose..Elsewise you might try a common product called "CLR" which is made to remove calcium, lime&rust, but I don't know if it works on fabric.

You need some oxalic acid, a reducing agent for rust. Typical products you find it in are Whink and Zud.

Don't use an oxidizing bleach like Oxiclean or Clorox on rust stains… you need to reduce (chemically the opposite of oxidize) them.

The works toilet bowl cleaner will get rust out clothes, tubs, toilet bowls, anywhere you have rust stains. My well water turned my white clothes a dull rust color, I put some of the works in the washer and after a couple of washes, they came out looking great.

I had rust on a fabric, forget what, it was months ago, and did a lot of searching online til I found this. Read the whole thing.

Rust stains in your favorite fabric? Hold on—you don’t have to throw that favorite shirt away! You’d be surprised at what the help of a little lemon could do; just follow these simple steps to rescue your otherwise-doomed rags.

Step 1-Lay the rust-stained fabric over several white paper towels, which will act as a blotter and absorb the rust.

Step 2-Cut a lemon in half and saturate the stain with the fresh lemon juice. (Bottled lemon juice will work, too.)

Step 3-Set the fabric (with the paper towel blotter beneath) out in the sun to dry. The rust stain will disappear.

    Step 4Launder as usual.
