I like Wine Away and Mostenbockers Food and Beverage Stain Remover. Both are non-toxic and biodegradeable, safe for use around food. Mostenbockers is usually found in the laundry aisle in drug and discount stores (Wal-Mart) and Wine Away is at Cost Plus and kitchen stores (Bed Bath & Beyond or Linen and Things.) Let either soak into the wood and you'll see the stain turn blue first (don't panic) then eventually disappear. You may want to seal the wood with Butcher Block safe paste to prevent future stains (Linen and Things has a good one).

I've heard about white wine takes away red wine stains, but I don't know if it's from fabrics only.

You didn't say if this is actually a maple (wood) butcher block or laminated finish to look like maple, and that would make a difference in how to remove the stain. If it is actually a wood top and is used as such, be careful of chemicals as it wil absorb into the pores of the wood and could likely wind up in your food. Assuming it's wood and has been seasoned periodically according to mfr suggestions, the oil should have sealed the pores so if you pour table salt onto the stain and use half a lemon it should scour it clean. I'd recommend bleach but it can and will discolor wood.

If it is a laminated top in a maple finish, you should be able to spray with a laundry stain remover such as shout and let it sit or soak paper towels in bleach and lay over stain. I know to remove red wine from fabrics you can use club soda or white wine.

Hope one of these methods help. Good luck!
