I have varies spots in my home where my loving pooch has stained. I heard steam cleaning won’t get the smell out. But whatif I add some baking soda to the water in my steam cleaner? Do you think this would work? Has anyone else tried steam cleaning?

Use this stuff called Nature’s Miracle. You can get a gallon jug of it at any pet store for about $25. Pour it directly on the stain, making sure to cover the entire area of the stain. Fold an old bath towel in half and lay it across the wet area (so you don’t accidentally walk on it and to wick the wetness out of the carpet).

Leave this sit overnight. The next day, remove the towel and allow the area to dry (it takes a couple days). If the area still stinks after drying, repeat the process. It will come up eventually.

BTW – Nature’s Miracle has a slight citrus scent. This will discourage the dog from using the same area again.

A steam vack will work if you go slow and use a lot of water. That is what I have to do. It takes a while and if you use a cleaner then that will just mask the stain and a dog can still smell it. this will make the dog keep on peeing on this spot. So you have to get it up,

Dont use vinager it will ruin your carpet.

The only thing that will work is replacing the carpet then cutting the wood out under your carpet and replacing that

Use Nature’s Miracle. This can be bought at Petsmart. The instructions tell you to soak the carpet, but I’ll tell you what has been effective for me. Make sure that you have not treated the stain/smell with anything else. Soak the spot really good…do not dilute. Place trash bags or any type of plastic over the treated spot for about 12-24 hours. What this does is keep the spot wet long enough for the smell and stain to go away. If it dries to fast, it won’t be as effective. You also have to make sure that the ceiling fan is not blowing either. I have three dogs on my own and stains are always a concern. Let me know how this works out…like I’ve said before, it’s worked for me!

Puppies will be lured back to a spot that smells of urine and feces. So a quick and thorough clean up of any accidents is essential to fast puppy housebreaking. Here are some pointers for how to clean dog urine off of a carpet:

    1. Absorb as much of the urine with paper towels. 2. Empty a regular drinking glass full of water over the accident spot. 3. Blot this diluted liquid until the paper towels show no signs of yellow. 4. Scrub the spot with a brush and carpet cleaner. 5. Again spray the spot with carpet cleaner and follow the cleaner’s instructions for removing with a vacuum cleaner. Repeat as necessary. 6. Spray an odor eliminator (available in most local pet stores) over the spot. Follow the directions explicitly, to avoid any lingering odors.

Important principles of how to clean dog urine

    • The faster you clean up the mess, the easier it will be…and the less likely stains will set. • it is important to remember that you must eliminate all odor. Even if you cannot smell it, companion animals can, and they will likely try to pee on or mark over the same area. They do that out of instinct, not spite. Follow these clean-up steps for wet or dried urine spots. • Use nontoxic products that are specifically made for pet messes and pet odors. They are typically more effective, since they organically break down waste while neutralizing odors, and they are safer for homes with animals. But always check the label to be sure. • There are nontoxic, inexpensive cleaning solutions you can make at home using standard ingredients such as baking soda, white vinegar and club soda. • Treat stains properly to avoid permanent damage to carpets and upholstery

It is always better to use non chemical products to clean your carpets, as this can lower the risk of damaging the colors. Always remove stains on a carpet, as soon as they come up. Blot up the stain to the best of your ability, but don’t scrub. Scrubbing can harden the stain and rip apart the fibers and alter the look of the nap. Simply press a clean terry cloth against the stain to let the stain stand up from the carpet. Next, keep on blotting the stain with another clean cloth, dipped in a mild detergent like a hand dishwashing detergent, toned down with water. If the stain does not fade away, use a chemical carpet cleaner, but before that, use it on a hidden part of the carpet to prevent it from bleaching the carpet or altering the colors in any way. But if this method fails, call a professional carpet cleaner, who will use stronger chemicals to erase the stain. http://www.freewebs.com/getanswer/howtocleancarpets.html
