How to get pet stain smells out of carpets?

I have a now-trained puppy who used to pee almost every night in my room and now I am stuck with the smell. I’ve tried scrubbing the carpet to death. I’ve tried shampooing it, (almost every week), and I’ve also tried to use nearly boiling hot water, and also like Febreeze and a few other odor neutralizers. I don’t know, maybe im not vacuuming my carpets correctly, does anyone know of any other remedies or products I can purchase to get the awful smell out of my room?

    warm water… with bicarb soda…lots of it the wen u do that just use odour replent… if that doesnt work go to a pet store and ask for advice

    Go to a pet store and ask for URine B gone. Not a great name, I know, but the stuff containes enzymes that destroy odor causing germs and the stuff works.

    If the carpet is not dark you can try peroxide (the same thing you'd use for first aid) – but it can bleach so you might want to do a spot test in an area first. Pet stores also have great products that work too!

    ONly thing I can think of is washing your carpet with a floor cleaner.
    I know they sell special sprays at pet stores for when you're trying to train your puppy that you can spray on the spot. I've never used one but perhaps that would work.

    the only thing thats worked for me was i finally broke down and got a carpet steamer, they have this speical formula for pet stains and oders and after 4 times of steaming the carpet and keeping the windows open the smell is finally gone. best of luck, it might have soaked down to the padding under the carpet and in that case your going to need new carpet.

    Find the exact location of the pet stain first (I use a UV light and the stains glow). Then I treat with a solution of OxyClean and water. You can find OxyClean at Wal-mart and Bed Bath and Beyond. Follow the directions on the back of the tub of OxyClean. I even got old pet stains and even older Kool-Aid stains out using this.

    I am in the carpet cleaning business and will tell you that this is the number one complaint among customers! (Number 2 is Kool-Aid stains which are impossible to get out and which require dyeing.) The odor from urine is caused by bacteria growing. The only way to treat it is to kill the bacteria. You need to inject a chemical into the padding. Surface scrubbing will never work! Also, if you do not inject enough "killer", the bacteria will grow afgain and you'll never get it out.

    I always suggest new carpet or, if not able to afford it, new padding. The latter is cheaper and easy to replace. No reputable carpet cleaner will ever guarantee urine stain/smell removal. Hope this helps!

    Go to a professinnal carpet cleaning supply house and get Happy. Works great and is not just a cover up.

    I think Sweet Pea was another.

    You may have to replace the carpet…

    The urine has saturated the carpet pad underneath, and possibly the floor boards.

    Next time you get a puppy, read "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by the Monks of New Skeete.

    You should not have this problem again.

    Try a combination of lemon juice water and bleach, but make sure you do a patch test to make sure the carpet won't fade. Get a good strong scrub brush, and scrub it in really good, then take a old towel and get as much of it out of your carpet as possible. It might take a couple of times to work, but it does work, I know I have been in your shoes! Good luck

    the problem is that the urine has soaked down into the padding of the carpet and things like febreeze only take care of the topical odors. try one of those oxy type carpet cleaners that swears it gets all the way down. the enzymes in these should neutralize the urine odor. also there are a few special things created for pet odors. but if you compare the active ingredients, they are pretty much the same.

    One thing we used on our carpets was SIMPLE GREEN. it has a strong smell of it's own and is non-toxic. for your carpet you may want to mix one part Simple green to twenty parts water.

    I love my dogs and cats with all my heart but I never seem to stop cleaning up after them even after our three walks a day. Anyway, I have tried EVERYTHING to get the animal smells out of my area carpets. In fact, I threw them out! Then I read about using baking soda or corn starch. Just sprinkle/cover (it won't damage your carpets, just a Little messy) over the entire carpet and let sit for at least 6 hours (24 is best) and then vacuum… That easy! You will not believe the difference. The baking soda/corn starch will turn from pure white to a yellowish brown color. All the store brands just cover up the smells using different scents and cover up the smell but they don't actually absorb the moisture from the urine. It's simple, cheap and easy. After you vacuum then sprinkle the scent products to give the room a fresh smell. I found this out by searching http://www.homeremedies.com Check it out, any questions you have on just about everything, it probably has a old fashion home remedy to use that you probably have in your house right now and already spent $100's somewhere else. Now you can LOVE your pet again and walk barefoot :) !

    I can completely relate to you, I looked it up online on how to get the smell out, you have to pull the carpet up, clean both sides, replace the padding, and cut the part of the floor out where they were peeing, and replace it. I just got done yesterday putting all new flooring in my livingroom for the same reason. I had to scrub the spots, put a new subfloor down, put padding down, with the moisture block side, and then I chose hardwood floor, so I can at least mop it completely out. And to be honest, I hate that I have to do this, but I think I'm still going to have to get rid of the dog, shes 3 and set in her ways, I dont think anything will make her stop doing that. For god sake she peed on the padding while I was waiting for the wood to be laid down. The whole project cost me almost $600. I'm not about to spend that again when she ruins my wood.

    Vinegar. Spray vinegar on wet spot soak in take a paper towel and absorb it up entirely. Do not rub it. Press firmly and absorb it.

    Fabreeze, oust and such only cover up odors. If you want there to be NO odors and have them not come back, use this stuff called Approach. You can get it online. http://www.approachit.net

    It's awesome stuff. My best friend used it when she bought a new house that stunk of dog. We sprayed the whole house down and now it has no odor at all and we've never had to respray.

    We also used it when we trained our dog sophie. When she had an accident, we sprayed the air and the carpet and the scent was gone.

    Best part is, it's natural stuff so it's not harmful to the puppy or to you.
