How to get rid of an old set-in blood stain?

My son had a bloody nose in the night, and I didn't realize that the blood was on his pillow. The blood stain had a chance to set in for days and then I made the mistake of putting the pillow case in the washing machine w/ regular detergent…And I even put it in the dryer. The stain is still there. So since it's had a chance to set in there very well, how do I get rid of it now?

    Try either hydrogen peroxide or borax. Peroxide usually works well on fresh blood stains and may not do the job because the blood is now heat set. But, try it first, it should bubble up and keep adding it until it stops bubbling. If the stain remains, make a paste with borax and water, agitate into the stain with a brush (old toothbrushes work well) and it should turn blue, eventually disappearing. If all else fails, Zout guarantees its stain removal and is about the best set in stain remover out there. You can find it at most grocers and discounters. (Use the one in the red, not blue, bottle.)

    ive never tried this on a pillow case, only on carpet. but scrub at the stain with dawn dish soap, then put a heavy weight on it. it should gradually dissapear. hope this helps.

    Hydrogen Peroxide my husband uses peroxide on his nurses scrubs.
