How to remove a grease stain from a wood table?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

Had a roomate leave a pizza box on our new wood table. We have tried everything we can find on the net with home prodcuts, things ranging from using toothpaste, peanut butter and a warm iron. Does anyone know of a better way to clean off the stain or a product we could purchase to remedy our problem.

Thank you,

If it's bare wood you can try denatured alcohol. Just dump some out of the can onto the stain, let it sit for a few seconds to lift the stain up out of the wood. Then use a dry rag to soak it up. If it's a real deep stain use lacquer thinner. Don't use either by an open flame. They're extremely flammable. Good luck.

Try putting salt on it and letting it sit for a while. See if it makes a difference and repeat. Then polish the wood.

    Good luck!

Murhpy's Oil Soap. Good stuff for cleaning wood.

Get it at Walmart or anywhere.

I use to have a business for home and apartment cleaning. I had a homeowner that did the same thing with a pizza box. The had a lot of money and had even consulted with an expert that could not get the mark off. Needless to say, this was an expensive table and very dark in color. It was in a formal dinningroom, and was real wood without a veneer.

If it is white in color from the heat of the pizza box, yet also showing what looks like a grease mark, try using mayonnaise! I know this sounds wrong but it did work. However, I am not looking at your table and do not know of the type of wood, nor if it is a veneer.

After you have rubbed in the mayonnaise, and the mark is gone…or almost gone, use Scotts Liquid Gold (non spray can) that you pour onto a soft cloth (scrap white tee shirt), and rub in. continue to use the Scotts, and over time, even this can remove most of the mark, but the best results come with the mayo.

These people were really scared to trust me with their expensive table. Especially telling them mayo. When they gave me permission, and then came home from work to see the results (completely gone) they were surprised to say the least. I continued to rub done the table for the next six months, once per month, knowing that the table was scorched by the hot box.

To make me feel better…….please try a SMALL SPOT first, as I said that I am not looking at the wood and mark myself and would feel terrible if it causes harm.

Good Luck……and I would appreciate it if you let me know by email how it turns out. Thanks.
