How to remove a puke smell/stain from carpet?

So there is puke on our carpet, we did our best to get most of it out, but it still smells. What is a good way to get the odor and stain out? Thanks.
I put baking soda on it for 15 minutes (what a website said). That helped with the smell, but after I vaccumed it up, it left a yellow spot. I put a wet towel on it and that got rid of the yellow spot. If I left baking soda over night would it hurt the carpet?

Shaving Cream will remove the stain. This sounds strange but it works.

Dampen the stain with water. Scrub in some Shaving Cream…any brand is fine as long as it’s white shaving cream. Then clean with damp cloths until the stain is gone.

Shaving cream is nothing but whipped soap that rinses easily. The last thing you want to use on carpet is a sudsy soap…you’d never get the suds out. Shaving cream removes most stains like magic.

This alone might also remove the smell. If not, sprinkle baking soda on the area. Allow to sit overnight. Then vacuum the baking soda up.

A paste mixture of oxiclean and laundry soap. let it sit for 15min, scrub with brush if stain is persistent, then dry by rubbing paper towel on it. After dried, spray fabrese.

Soak the area in water to loosen any material (filth) left in it

Brush a small amount of laundry detergent into the wet carpet with a stiff bristled cleaning brush.

Vacuum out the soapy water with a shop vaccuum or "wet/dry" vaccuum.

Wet once more with water to rinse excess soap, brushing it in. This step may have to be repeated several times to remove the soap from the carpet fiber.

Vacuum again to remove excess water, and allow area to dry.

Treat the area by applying a layer of baking soda and brushing it in when the carpet dries. Leave it in for 24 hours, then vaccuum out.

puke spots can be tough because they contain acids that could burn themselves in the carpet fibers. try an oxidizer like woolite w/ oxiclean. seriously though, there is probley nothing you can do. you should really consider calling a pro b4 you set the stain in worse. make sure your techs are certified and know their stuff. actually when you call them, ask them if they can use pros choice, stain magic with an iron and wet towell on the spot. if they dont know what ur talking about or suggjest that something is better than dont hire them. if that doesent work than nothing will. for the smell you need to just ask a pro. id recommend unsmoke liquizone but only pros have access to it.
