How to remove laundry detergent from carpet?

Hi, today I emptied out half a bottle of "ultra concentrated, bleach alternative" liquid laundry detergent onto my apartment carpet. The carpet is light gray and the detergent is dark blue and now there is a pretty big blue stain. Any ideas short of getting the whole thing shampooed or steam cleaned? If I start scrubbing away with water will that make it better or worse? Thanks.

UGG, not fun! DO NOT ADD ANY WATER! The first thing you need to do is absorb the excess detergent with basic kitty litter , ie don’t get the fancy clumping and odor absorbing ones. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes, scoop up with a dust pan and repeat over and over again until the litter scooped up is entirely dry. After that, use a rag and press to absorb any additional liquid that already seeped into the fibers. At this point you can use a carpet steamer with water and no cleaning agent to vac up the remaining mess. OR you can sponge the area with water and use a wet vac to get it up. If you feel the area is remaining sudsy, apply white vinegar to neutralize and revaccum when dry. The blue "stain" should disappear along with your cleaning procedure.
