buy a can of paint compound, it’s like polish, but will remove light rust stains… you need to buy something to put on the actual rust spot that will stop the running. go to any hardware store and explain what you problem is and i’m sure they will be able to help you.
i have bought such an item but i just can’t remember the name of it.
it actually turns the rust into a hard black surface. there actuelly has to be rust for this stuff to work.
comes in a small can and the lid has a brush attached to it. you lightly sand the rust then apply the compound. it also paintable.
ace hardware is where i bought mine, maybe about $5.00 but can be uused where any metal is rusting.
i have the can right in front of me and it’s called EXTEND RUST NEUTRALIZER by LOCTITE, it’s actually a plastic container.
    good luck to ya.

You can use a “rust converter” liquid that you brush onto the rust. It
creates a chemical reaction that stops the rust from spreading. You
can purchase it a any major auto parts store and even Wal-Mart. It
    works great.
