How to remove salsa stain and smell from carpet?!?

Hi, I need some advice on how to get a fresh salsa stain out of my carpet. My puppy spilled a 1 quart sized container of Macayo’s salsa on our short brown carpet. I scooped all I could into the trash, blotted up the wetness, then washed the carpet with warm water and dish detergent. Then I cleaned this up, rinsed with cool water, and blotted again. Now my carpet has an icky flowery-salsa smell that is permeating the entire house, and there is still a reddish tone to that spot on the carpet. Please help! How can I make this (the smell most importantly) go away permanently?

It is undoubtedly down to the foam under your carpet. Spend the $25 to rent a steam cleaner from the grocery store and go over the spot several times to get up the residue from down deep, then clean the whole room to make sure there isn’t one clean spot in a sea of not-quite-clean short brown.

There is a spray bottle with Oxy & Woolite you can get in the grocery or Walmart: it is wonderful. You spray let is soak in for a while and wipe with clean water. Keep applying if it does not work the first time – This works on stained clothing too.

Well since you have already put water on it I would call a carpet cleaning company to come out and clean it. When you put the water on it you pushed the stain down into the pad so you will probably need a professional to pull it out. Let them know before they come out what was spilled on the carpet so they can bring the appropriate cleaners.

You can try Spot Shot on it first though. It is by far the best carpet cleaner I have ever found! It is really easy to use and I have never found anything that it didn’t work on. I have used it on blood, urine, vomit, auto grease and spagetti sauce! You can also use it on clothing – I have for years!

You may have to use it a couple of times to get the stain out but it will work, the problem is that since the stain is in the pad then it will come back in a couple of weeks.

Also don’t use cool/cold water on a stain because it will set it. Always use warm water to draw a stain out.

And don’t use orange juice it will just make the stain worse and make your carpet sticky! I can’t believe someone suggested that!!!

    Good Luck!!!
