How to remove/prevent rust stains from iron fence?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

I recently installed white roth iron fences along the front and back yard. It looks really nice and sure does makes house looks much better but just can’t keep the rust stain off fromt he posts. Specially the cross bar on top is leaking rust stain every morning and it runs down the side of main post. It’s red and it sticks out since the fence is in WHITE! How can I prevent this rust stains and how can I clean it off?

Thank you in advance.

sand it down to bare metal. Wipe clean with wet rag & dry. then Seal it with off-white RustSeal primer then topcoat with your white color.

buy their System Sampler kit for $16.

You need to find out where the paint has failed, and get to that part, which could require dismantling portions. I was going to give you the whole process for fixing this, which is messy and laborious, but here’s the easy way: Find the rusting portions, and paint over them with clear nail polish.

clr will take the rust staines off.you need to go too the hardware store and ask them for some kind of spray that prevents iron from rusting and they will get it for you i know they sell it just don’t know what it is called explain your situation to the man at the hardware store and he will help you.

Your first problem: Its Iron. Iron will rust no matter what.

Second problem: Its painted white. Any rust that does occur you will see very clearly. Maybe paint it black so its less noticeable.

To take care of the rust you must grind the iron down to clean metal. You can use an oil based rust inhibitor as a base coat but make sure its OIL!

This however is only a temporary fix. You must then repaint that fence approx. every 2-4 years.

    Good luck

Are you sure that it’s actually the fence? I’ve been in areas with rusty water where sprinkler systems have left very noticeable rust patterns on houses, etc. – could this be from watering?
If it’s not from watering, and since you say the fence was installed recently, you should probably check your warranty and talk to your installer/manufacturer. It seems like something’s wrong if a new fence is rusting.
