I spilled red wine all over my favorite AE cotton sweater and I need to know how to get the stains out if at all possible???
the sweater is pink in color

    ASAP, soak it in WHITE wine until the red wine is completely gone. Then immediately soak it in club soda overnight (or 24 hours) to get out the white wine. Then wash in cold water, no soap.

    You have to buy something called Spray and Wash. You can get it at walmart, superstore, target anywhere. You spray it all over the stain and throw it in the washing machine. Then it disappears and is safe on your clothes.

    Call me crazy but Dawn dish soap works wonders with almost everything I’ve tried it on. If you get a idea that suits you better, go for it. If it doesn’t work what the heck try the dawn.

    put salt water paste on it — lots of salt and a little bit of water. Rub that in good and let it stand for a while. The salt will draw out the wine. After you do that put a little spray n’ wash and wash it.

    There are commercial stain removers in the supermarkets so try the best one possible. There is a product called Nappysan but dont know if you can get it where you are. I have used this on tablecloths that had beetroot stains that were old and was successful although I had to soak for several days. If nothing works try dyeing with a cotton dye.

    First of all you never drink red wine when wearing a white shirt that just asking the wine to please spill on my white shirt.
    Second, the way you get the stain out is ……. hmmm……..
    aw…….. fuck it throw it away it’s not worth spending time trying to clean it will just make you more frustrated and pissed off and ruin the rest of your day…..maybe even your week. Don’t sweat it. Easy solution just go buy another shirt with the money you would usually spend on that wine.

    Try some of they "oxygen" cleaners; they are very good at taking out this sort of stain. Sometimes club soda will do the job all by itself, but if it doesn’t work, one of the oxygen cleaners like Oxy-Clean should do it.

    Whatever you do, do NOT dry the sweater in a dryer until the stain is GONE, or it will absolutely be there forever!

    Well, you should have poured some white wine over it as soon as you noticed the stains. I did this on a port stain on my silk dress and it worked a charm.

    Failing this, I’d use Vanish bar. It’s a stain remover in a handy bar and it removes everything, even dried-in stains. Dampen the stain, rub in the bar and gently scrub (with your fingers if the item is delicate, use a nailbrush if it’s robust) and then wash as normal.

    Lots of plain water to start, blotting and rewetting. Then the salt for about 5 minutes, rinse again. Baking soda is another thought.

    Laundry pretreats or even just allowing liquid laundry detergent to stay on the spot at least 10 minutes then wash often does the trick.

    Don’t machine dry until you know it’s out. Air dry. You can always rewash and machine dry once you know it’s truly out!

    Red wine stains are easiest to remove if they are still wet. If you can’t deal with the problem immediately, lay a wet towel over the carpet area or put the affected clothing to soak until you can treat it. The following methods work almost all of the time:

    Wine Away Red Wine Stain Remover – This is by far the most effective product we have found. It not only works almost every time on red wine stains, but it is also extremely effective on coffee, grape, grape juice, blueberry, pizza sauce, urine and grease stains! The Food & Wine editors said it “makes red-wine stains disappear – even from white linens, as we discovered for ourselves…” The Good Housekeeping Institute reported that “Wine Away works great on upholstery & carpet (even white fibers). …it gets the red out of cotton and linen tablecloths too…”

    Blot stain with paper towel. Dowse stain area with club soda or seltzer. Blot again. Repeat dowsing and blotting.

    Keep cheap white wine around. Blot stain with paper towel. Dowse stain area with white wine. Blot again. Repeat dowsing and blotting. This works because red and white wine have the same proteins (not to mention alcohol).

    Blot stain with paper towel. Build a mound of salt over the stain. Let sit overnight. Vacuum in the morning.

    Use spray (pump) carpet cleaner such as Resolve or Woolite. Soak for 3-5 minutes. Then dab with paper towels or clean rags, but don’t rub.

    Use Dri-Clean, an automotive product sold in many automotive departments. Results are impressive.

    Use Quick & Brite, a product sold on many late night cable stations. Unlike the knives and other junk sold this way, this product works.

    Other commercial products that work well are Spot Shot, DidiSeven and Dev-Tec.

    1Step OneBlot the stain immediately with paper towels. If it is a dry clean only garment do not pretreat the stain and get it as fast as you can to the cleaners. Pretreatment of the stain can cause irreversable damage and the dry cleaner may not be able to remove the stain.
    2Step TwoCombine 1 teaspoon laundry soap or pretreatment (or dish soap, like Dawn) and 1 cup hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl. Soak a clean sponge in the mixture, squeeze it halfway dry, then gently blot the stain.
    3Step ThreePlace a dry towel or washcloth between the front and back of the garment if the stain has not penetrated through to the back of the fabric. This will prevent staining on the back of the material.
    4Step FourReview the washing instructions on the label of the fabric. Heed any special care instructions.
    5Step FiveWash in cool water and air dry if the fabric is machine-washable.
    6Step SixWash gently in the sink with a mild detergent like Woolite if the fabric is hand-wash only.
    Tips & Warnings
    Always use white paper towels, as colored towels may stain.
    Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the stain excessively. This can cause the stain to further penetrate the fabric.
