I have parquet floors and they’re stained with dog urine, is there a way to get rid of the stain?

I live on the 11th floor of a condominium so it’s hard to make it outside in time for my dogs to do their business. Eventually, the accidents that I didn’t spot in the beginning grew into ugly black stains on my wood. They don’t smell, but I can’t seem to get the stain off. Is there a way to get it off without having to replace the wood?

If your dogs keep going on the same area, you should clean it first with an enzymatic cleaner so they don’t keep replenishing that scent.

No guarantee but you might try hydrogen peroxide. I would try a small test area first. The effect is to bleach the wood. You can dab some on and see if you can see a difference. It may take several applications. You can then restain and refinish.

You also need to find a solution for your dogs. You might try puppy pads placed on top of a leak proof surface.

not if it has penetrated the wood , you can sand it down past the stains , but it would be cheaper to replace the floor than to sand it all the way down ….

Katerine, here are 2 solutions, because I guarantee the urine is soaked through the entire boards.

    A. replace the boards by hiring a flooring expert. If not, your landlord may charge you 4 times what the job is worth if you move out. Make sure he can color match (with tinted stains) the new floor to blend in with the old floor. (any good painter can do this)

    B. Call a furniture maker (usually experts in refinishing) and ask them if they can hand paint a wood grain matching finish (using about 5 paint colors) to blend in with the existing wood.

Other than that, there is nothing that will work – not even sanding the floors down. If you choose option "A" – the contracter will show you how the urine stain made it to the back of the board. And just between you and me – the smell will be there for years, unless you replace, seal, or paint the damaged area.

no, they will go deep so to attempt sanding you will end up with a very uneven floor.
replace the stained pieces, sand the whole floor and re-varnish. use bourne seal or something similar, non slip.
besides what are you doing with a dog on the 11th floor. poor thing. buy a house with a garden.
