It is 100% polyester. I have already washed it twice in my washer in warm water with detergent after spraying it with stain remover.

Yes, you can, as long as the fabric itself is not damaged.

Bleach is the first thing to consider, but for anything that is not white cotton, it could damage the fabric.

Here is what I have done:

You need something that is a little caustic, but not so caustic that it damages the fabric. Stain remover will not work. Try pouring ammonia on the mold stains and letting it set for a day or so. This should not damage the fabric. Depending on how many stains there are, you might want to soak the garment in a ammonia diluted with water, but pure ammonia works great.

Another thing that we have found to work well is oxyclean. You have to have the water VERY hot, and soak it in this. We have a recurrent problem with mold and mildew on a canvas retractable awning. We can’t use bleach because bleach damages canvas and would fade it unevenly. We use ammonia and let it sit in the sun, and then power wash it with very hot water with tons of oxyclean. It works great for us.

Sometimes, some species of mold make permanent discoloration on polyester, and most especially on nylon. I’d try a peroxygen bleach first… straight hydrogen peroxide, first aid strength, and a drop of ammonia, or a good stout mix of Oxiclean or Snowy. If that didn’t work, I’d then try chlorine bleach — it won’t damage the polyester, but may cause some color change in the comforter.

The real key here is to keep stuff dry — molds and mildews always weaken fibers a bit when they take up housekeeping in your fabric.

100% polyester will turn yellow with bleach, so try Ace bleach. But I doubt you wll get it clean to be honest – sorry.

Put a little lemon juice on the stain and set it out in the sun for a couple of hours.
