"Rust Stains
The yellow, orange or brown spots we sometimes find on our clothes may be caused by rust. Iron content of over .2 parts per million in your water supply can cause these type of stains, so it’s important to have your water supply checked. Two possible sources can be rust water pipes or water heaters. One way to combat this problem is by using a mechanical water softener with an iron filter. Also, using a non-chlorine bleach can help, as chlorine bleach may cause the iron in the water to precipitate on fabrics and leave stains"
To remove the stains I have always had good luck with a product called Whink Rust Stain Remover. Just follow instructions on the brown plastic bottle..
maybe ink pen or marker
if its an oldwasher check for rust ive had that happen before.
if your washer is old, it is rust stains. use less bleach. like a half cup and a cup of white vinegar in your wash it will brighten them. go to vinegartips.com
it’s iron in your water, be sure you have plenty of salt in your softener. avoid doing whites until it cycles it’s self. i have this problem too. i use morton’s iron out salt, works very well!
I know you said "besides bleach",
but you should maybe make sure theres no bleach in your detergent? Because sometimes they have bleach added for your whites. So if you use it with your darks, well..
Im sorry
I know you said besides bleach. I just thought i’d mention this, just in case.
Its really the only thing I can see. Or rust, like someone else mentionned.
