What's the best and effective way to get rid of "ring around the collar"?
You know, like dirt and sweat that’s stained the white collar of a nice dress shirt?
I use a generic brand of laundry stain removal. Do I need to try a name brand? Am I not pre soaking it long enough? Do I need to let the stain removal set on the collar by itself for a few hours or combine it with hot water?
Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks!

I always keep a bottle of inexpensive shampoo in the laundry room. Those " ring around the collar" stains are oil based. The same formula that cleans your hair should remove the stain. Just pour the shampoo on and rub it into the collar. Bar soap also works well. Good luck.
Wash your neck, perhaps?
A spray of Oxiclean spray should do the trick. All those sprays need time to work (usually a minimum of 30 minutes and can sit up to 7 days) so don’t spray right before you load the washer, instead spray as soon as you take off the shirt and let sit up to a week.
Try baking soda. Rub the baking soda in the collar and let it set in. It’s effective and cheap.
you only have to soak clothes for 7-8 minutes. if you do it for a longer period of time the dirt goes back into the clothing. use a soap based stain remover.
Make a paste of 1/4 cup of baking soda and water, rub into the stain and let sit for 30 minutes before washing. This works great for underarm stains too! We’ve saved quite a few shirts this way.
