My 4 yr. old had a small blood stain on her underwear, could her hymen have broken so early?

She peed and there was blood on the tissue paper and a little bit on the toilet seat. Not a lot at all. She is very healthy physically and mentally so I ‘m not worried that she has been traumatized, but it is unusual. The only thing I can think of is that her hymen has broken from physical activity, she does gymnastics, dance and yoga.
As it turns out she had a microscopic tear that caused the blood. The likely cause was toilet paper or her fingernails.

Thanks for your responses!

It’s possible that she has a bladder infection, but it is also possible that she has broken her hymen. The balance beam, even riding her bike can do it.

Please, Please, Please take her to see a dr. Someone you trust.

No matter what it is, nor how much, taking her to your family doctor would be a good idea..
there are just too many problems that a young girl can meet up with by not recieving proper treatment, my 15 yo daughter was having problems, and she turned out to have a urinary tract infection, as well as a bladder and kidney infection, and was in the hospital for 4 days..
Better safe, than sorry, in this case.

It’s more likely that she has an infection, you should take her to the doctors. I doubt her hymen is broken unless she someone did something horribly unappropriate to her. You should deffinatley call your doctor

You should see a doctor. It could be serious.

Has she complained of itching or does it hurt to pee? I would take her in to be examined.

Take her to a doctor asap. From personal experience as a child.

It’s possible it’s from activity…but…please have her examined, don’t ever be naive…..most professional experts will know the cause weather it be activity, dance or something else….and if it is from dance …perhaps her instructors need to know she needs to take it easy….if it’s anything else you will be the first to know and you can do something about it. If she is 4 she’s obviously verbal why don’t you ask her some questions? I hope everything is O.K.!!!!

It can’t hurt to go the doctor like everyone else is suggesting. But my 3 year old fell climbing up the swing set ladder last summer and hit her private area on the rung (sp?). She had a little light bleeding in that area as well. I called the doctors office and they said as long as it stopped bleeding and wasn’t a lot, she was ok. They suggested I put a bag of frozen peas in her underwear (since they can easily conform to the shape in that area). She was fine.

But I saw this injury happen to my daughter. Since you didn’t see it, I would take her to be examined. Good luck!

My cousin’s daughter got a mini period when she was that young. It was some kind of weird pre-pubescent hormonal thing. Take her to the Doctor.
