My carpet has stains from Kool-Aid and Mountain Dew Code Red (both bright red!) How can I get the stains out?

I rent the town home that I live in and need to get these stains out so I don’t have to pay to get the carpets redone. I would go out and rent a carpet cleaner, but I have seen my parents do that before and it didn’t work. Does anyone have any suggestions based on personal experience? I want my last option to be hiring a professional b/c I’m limited on money, but I also don’t want to spend a bunch of money on crap that isn’t going to work. Thank you for any help you can offer!!!

p.s.my carpet is beige:(

Oxi-clean is not going to do any good. It adds oxygen (a oxidizer or oxygenating bleach). Red food dye responds to a reducer, something that removes oxygen.</chemistry lesson>

This company makes both a two part (what I use) http://www.proschoice.com/html/red_relief.html and a one-part reducer made specifically for red food dye removal.

Anything else and you’re wasting your time and money.

Get OxyClean! That fool on tv that always advertises it seems to get anything out.

Try vinegar, poor or spray and let it soak for about 20 miutes.
Then with a brush, scrub as hard as you can.

spot shot is a very good product. last year my friend was drinking some rasberry drink and knocked it all over my white carpet. i just sprayed that on, and it was completely gone.
    good luck

Go to Canadian Tire and buy a product called ‘Mean Green’. It is a cleaner that not only works on boats (!!) but also carpets and even safe enough for clothing! I use it on everything.

That should work unless the stain is quite old and then you might have a problem.

I’ve tried the following site’s advice and was very successful in removing the stains. I never hire a professional to clean my rugs…I purchased my own carpet cleaner and use good old fashioned elbow grease to remove any stains from carpeting. I also stopped anyone from drinking in any room in the house with carpeting.

I hope you have success with removing the stain. I don’t blame you…I wouldn’t want to hire anyone to get the job done either.

God’s blessings on you and yours…Always!

U cant unfortunately… my boys have spilled red kool aid and cough syrup all over our beige rugs and nothing besides bleaching the carpet will get the stains out… i have tried and paid big prices for cleaning and nothing works.
